When the Size Isn’t Right
Even though there’s a large selection of sizes for air filters available these days, that doesn’t mean the one you need will be available. Most options available are standardized. If your HVAC has a filter slot that doesn’t perfectly fit one of those, the one that you buy that’s “close enough” won’t cut it.
If the filter is slightly too big, it won’t fit in your HVAC. If it’s too small, dust particles will float right past your filter, defeating its purpose entirely. You need the size to be exact for the filter to work, meaning that you’ll need to order a custom size if others don’t fit.
When It Doesn’t Last Long Enough
Even though many standardized filters are made to last, nothing beats the quality of a customized filter. When a product is made according to your needs, it won’t have to cut corners as mass-produced items do. That means you’re left with a product that’s of a higher quality than the industry standard.
On top of that, when an HVAC filter is made specifically for your needs, it’ll work the way that it’s intended to. A standard filter will have to work harder to achieve similar results, which means it’ll wear out and need to be replaced sooner.
When the Efficiency Rating Isn’t High Enough
Even though standardized filters vary quite a bit in their efficiency ratings, you might not be able to find one that reaches the filtration level you need. This is one of the main reasons some people choose to go with custom air filters over standard ones. Being in total control of the efficiency of your filter will make a noticeable difference in the quality of your air.
However, if you need the highest level of filtration efficiency possible, you’ll want to go with a commercial HEPA filter. These filters are rated at a minimum efficiency of 99.97 percent for particles in the 0.3-micron range. Plus, manufacturers factory test each one before shipping them out. If your business has to pass safety regulations that require a certain level of air quality, a custom HEPA filter will be the best option for you.
