Air filtration plays a major role in indoor air quality. Not only can fine filter systems capture contaminants or toxic particles, but they can also help control fumes, odors and VOC’s that otherwise contribute to unsafe working conditions. Commercial and industrial facilities are routinely required to maintain fume and odor filtration systems to keep staff and visitors safe. To stay compliant with regulations and to provide safe working conditions, facility managers must choose the right filters for their particular circumstances.
At Clean Liquid Systems, we provide highly effective activated carbon filters and HEGA filters for use across diverse industries. Learn more about the types of odor filters available, their common applications, and the benefits of choosing these high-performance filters.
Types of Odor Filters
Clean Liquid Systems specializes in various types of commercial and industrial filters for air pollution: activated carbon, impregnated carbons and chemisorbant media are available depending on what fumes or odors you are dealing with. Disposable and refillable types are available as well as critical area protection with high-efficiency gas adsorption (HEGA) filters.
Activated Carbon Filters
Activated carbon filters are ideal for environments with strong odors or VOC’s present in your environment. Activated carbon can trap odor-causing molecules, making workplaces cleaner, safer, and more comfortable. When designed properly, these filter solutions may add minimal pressure drop to existing systems and provide needed protection from foul odors and VOC’s that may cause headaches as well as nauseous conditions.
Our two stage Activated carbon filters with MERV rated high efficiency media, minimizes the risk of carbon fines, helps to achieve higher LEEDS building ratings as well as helps prevent process contamination. These features make them suitable for commercial and industrial HVAC systems and manufacturing facilities across all industries.
HEGA Filters (High Efficiency Gas Adsorbers)
If your facility handles chemicals, gaseous toxins, or other dangerous particles, HEGA filters offer a more rigorous standard of clean air. Scientists originally created these filters to protect against biological warfare. The filters are durable and range in depth from 12″ to 18″ for maximum particle containment. They also use activated carbon and impregnated TEDA carbons, holding up to 105 pounds of carbon per filter.
Other Versions of Pleated carbon HEGA filters have up to 500 grams of carbon per square meter for fast odor adsorption. **Keep in Mind that we do not recommend Pleated carbon HEGA filters for Critical situations such as shelters or military applications.
Applications of Odor Filters
Some of the most common applications for activated carbon and HEGA filters include the following:
- Hospitals: These robust filtration solutions deliver clean air throughout healthcare facilities to protect staff, patients, and visitors.
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing centers: HEGA and activated carbon filters prevent cross-contamination and odors from carrying over to different pharmaceutical products. Air filters also protect researchers and production staff from toxic odors.
- Food and beverage manufacturing centers: The right filtration solutions can minimize cross-contamination, contain potential allergens, and create a pleasant, low-odor, and safe food processing environment.
- Commercial kitchens: Protect workers from long-term exposure to odors and respiratory irritants.
- Water processing and sewage treatment facilities: Impregnated carbons remove H2S fumes and other sewage odors.
- Airports and Heliports: helps remove diesel and jet engine fumes.
- Morgues
- Critical Shelters in manufacturing facilities, chem plants and bomb shelters
- Pulp and paper mills
Benefits of Odor and VOC Filters
Odor filters benefit workers and visitors in the facility as well as the end-users of the products made in the facility. These benefits include:
- Better overall air quality, contributing to human health and wellness
- Odor and fume reduction, which makes environments more pleasant for staff and guests
- Greater employee retention and safety
- Compliance with safety, sanitation, hygiene, and environmental standards
Installation and Maintenance of Odor & VOC Filters
To get the most out of your odor and fume filters, it is important to periodically test or monitor the downstream air. Refillable style filters allow you to pull a sample of media and send to us for testing. A minimal charge for testing allows you to monitor and know when optimal change out time is needed.
Replacing filters on time is a crucial part of effective filtration. In addition to scheduling routine maintenance, always follow manufacturer recommendations for replacement intervals based on the size of the filter, the intensity of usage, and the environmental conditions in your facility.
